Bernedoodle History
The Bernedoodle is a relatively new hybrid breed that was developed in 2003 by crossing a Bernese Mountain Dog with a Standard Poodle. These dogs have become popular over the last couple of decades due to their friendly and affectionate nature, as well as their intelligence and low-shedding coats. This designer breed gained full commencement under the International Designer Canine Registry in 2020. The American Kennel Club (AKC) has yet to recognize them as an official breed, but they are eligible for various AKC events such as Rally Obedience, Trick Dog Titles and Agility Competitions. Bernedoodles tend to make great family pets due to their outgoing personalities and trainability. They can also be good therapy dogs for those who need comfort or companionship. Additionally, these beautiful companions can provide protection — like their larger cousins — when necessary because of natural guard dog instincts inherited from its parent breeds.
