Boxer History

The boxer dog breed originated in Germany and has been around since the late 19th century. The breed is believed to have descended from a variety of other breeds including the Bullenbeisser, an extinct mastiff-bulldog mix, and possibly even the English Bulldog. Boxers were originally bred for hunting but were used for many different activities such as cart pulling, police work, herding and circus performers.

In 1904, the first standard for boxers was established in Germany which classified them into two types; working and show lines. By 1920s boxers began to gain popularity throughout Europe due to their loyal nature and intelligence. Eventually they made their way to America where they easily adapted thanks to their friendly personalities and agility on sports fields such as catch or retrieve games.

Today, boxers are still considered one of the most beloved family dogs due largely in part to their playful energy, intelligence, loyalty and confidence making them excellent companion animals for families with active lifestyles!
