Havanese History
The Havanese is a small breed of dog that originated in Cuba. It descended from a variety of breeds, including the Blanquito de la Habana and the Bichon Tenerife. For centuries, the Havanese was bred by wealthy Cuban families as a companion dog and lapdog. They were also popular circus performers due to their intelligence, agility, and sociable nature. The Havanese first arrived in America with Cuban immigrants during the 1950s and 1960s. In 1996, it became recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC) under its Toy Group classification. Today, the Havanese is known for being an affectionate and gentle family pet with a playful temperament that makes it well-suited to life indoors or out. It loves children and other pets, making it an excellent choice for larger households
