Italian Greyhound History
The Italian Greyhound is a small breed of dog with a long history. This breed likely dates back to Ancient Greece and has been popular among royal families throughout Europe, including Italy, since at least the 16th century.
The first Italian Greyhounds were imported to North America in the late 1800s, but it wasn't until 1888 that they were officially recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC). Since then they have grown in popularity and their numbers continue to rise today.
Smaller than most breeds, these dogs are gentle and intelligent animals who love people's company and do not need much exercise or grooming making them an ideal pet for both active owners and those who just want a canine companion for snuggles on the couch. They can live up to 15 years if taken care of properly making them an integral part of any family for many years!
