Rhodesian Ridgeback History
The Rhodesian ridgeback is an African breed with a long and unique history. The breed originated in southern Africa where they were used to hunt lions. Known throughout the region by different names, the breed was eventually recognized as the "Rhodesian ridgeback" after being developed by South African game hunters in what is now Zimbabwe. The breed arrived in North America during the late 1800s and India Master Hound Club (IMHC) was founded in 1922 as support for ridgeback owners and fanciers. After several decades of campaigning, the American Kennel Club (AKC) recognized the Rhodesian Ridgeback under its “Hound Group” classification back in 1955. These days, many families around North America have adopted these breeds into their households due to their loving and loyal personalities - although they still retain their natural hunting instincts so they are best trained when young if you want to prevent any type of problem behavior later on down the line..
